Abraham "Abe" Martinez Sr. of Hondo, 89, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017. He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Mesquite, the son of Salvador and Andrea Gonzales Martinez. Abraham had been an electrical lineman with Medina Electric Coop and with the City of Castroville. He loved the outdoors, motorcycles and his dog, Brownie. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carmen Frias Martinez; brother, Sesario G. Martinez; and stepdaughter, Frances Biaz. Survivors include his son, Abraham (Brenda) Martinez Jr. of Mesquite; daughters, Anna (Mathew) Kramm and Margaret (Robert) Garcia, all of San Antonio; stepdaughter Janie (Robert) Benavides of Hondo; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Friday, Mar. 3, prior to the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
