Obituary

Adelita Sanchez Oranday of Bandera passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.  She was 74.

She was born Nov. 25, 1950, in Levelland TX, one of 10 children born to Faustino and Louisa Abrego Sanchez.

Lela, as she was known to family and friends, enjoyed meeting and visiting with everyone. Strangers soon became friends. Going to Bingo events was her favorite entertainment.

Always a hard worker, she was a nurse's aide at Bandera Nursing and Rehabilitation for several years, was housekeeper for several ladies in Bandera, and also worked alongside Abran, keeping lawns beautiful for many homes in the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margie Sanchez and Ruth Sanchez; step-son-in-law, Jesse Roman; and brothers-in-law, Tony Torres and Jose Lopez.

Survivors include her husband, Abran Oranday; step-children, Oralia Chappins (Rick), Rebecca Roman, RoyOranday (Mary Ann), Evangelina Oranday (Scott Dye), and David Oranday (Diana).

Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Faustino Sanchez Jr. (Gina), Nora Mendoza (Tony), Hortencia Torres, Clara Lopez, Ruben Sanchez, Alicia Torres (Roy), and Martin Sanchez (Mary Rose); and numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel.

Rosary at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m., and interment at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.

Pallbearers will be Jo Ann Palomo, Alfonso Rene Oranday, Jimmy Ray Oranday, Andrew Sanchez, Johnny Garza and Jason Lopez.
