She made this world a better place just by being here. Agnes Josephine (Bures) Breiten was born in Louise, TX, on Jan. 22, 1924, and went home to the Lord on Nov. 4, 2010. She resided in Dunlay until such time Alzheimer's made it necessary to place her in a nursing home. She was the youngest child of Charles and Gabriella Bures. In 1944 she married Robert B. Breiten Jr. and they had two sons, Robert III an Clifton. In 1952 Robert B. Jr. came down with polio and Agnes lovingly took care of him until his death in 1990. Agnes raised her sons, cared for her father-in-law until his death in 1975, owned and ran a grocery store in Dunlay, was Postmistress of the Dunlay Post office, and raised cattle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and everyone she met became her friend. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband; son, Robert III; and brothers, George and Edmond Bures. She is survived by her son, Clifton and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Randy and Caty, all of Dunlay, Robert IV and Patricia Breiten; sister, Mary and husband Calvin Bendele of D'Hanis; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends of the community. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 8, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo. Interment will follow at the Quihi Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Agnes would say, "Don't mourn for me, for I am in a better place. Live your lives and cherish the time you have with your loved ones and friends." The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
