Albert Scruggs

Albert Scruggs Love, Jr., of Hondo, Texas was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Marshall, Texas, to Albert Scruggs Love, Sr., and Cynthia Lee Ford Love of McAllen, Texas. Scruggs went to be with his Lord on Sept. 13, 2019.
Visitation will be held at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. A Celebration of Life and Resurrection will be Monday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. at New Fountain United Methodist Church in Hondo, Texas.
Scruggs attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, McAllen High School, Texas A&M University and Texas A&I University, earning a bachelors degree in business administration, and attended the Graduate School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Scruggs was proud to serve as a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corp and was a Company Commander in the United States Army Europe.
He received his MAI (Member of the Appraisal Institute) designation in 1964 and enjoyed a 61-year career as a Real Estate Appraiser and Consultant Scruggs was employed by the Texas Highway Department as an appraiser from 1958 to 1960 before forming the firm of Love and Associates in 1960. He was on the faculty of the Appraisal Institute for over 20 years teaching real estate appraisal courses leading to the MAI designation. He was recognized by the Appraisal Institute as a premier teacher and educator. A member of the institute since 1964, he served the organization in various capacities at both national and local levels. He was a past president of the Appraisal Institute's South Texas Chapter. Scruggs represented the Apprisal Institute as their National President in 1990. He was a member of the Counselors of Real Estate, the Real Estate Counseling Group of America and the San Antonio Board of Realtors and National Association of Realtors.
He was highly respected and loved by his colleagues, friends and family. He was always available to help anyone who needed him. Scruggs was a true gentleman and a quiet, humble man whose character spoke for itself. Those close to Scruggs knew he was happiest when he was on his boat fishing in the deep sea waters of the Gulf of Mexico or the bay waters in Port Aransas. He loved taking family and friends on his many fishing trips, but there was one thing, everyone knew about going fishing with Scruggs in the Gulf – if you get seasick, we don't turn around and go back, we just keep on fishing.
Scruggs is survived by his wife, Betty Parsons Love. Together, they were parents of four children, Scruggs' daughter, Nicole Love Dan (Chad), and his stepsons, Darryn Bernal (Kim), Steven Bernal and Eric Bernal (Erin). Also suriving are grandchildren, Tyler, Mitchell (Victoria) and Sarah Dan, Nicholas (Megan), Samantha, Derek (Kaitlyn), Dara Bernal Macon (Jake), Darryn, Danyelle and Tanner Bernal; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Brynnlan, Kamryn, Thomas and Claire Bernal; and Margaret Boyd Love (mother of his children).
Scruggs was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Love; and infant great-grandson, Eli Harris Bernal.
Scruggs was active in his local community in the Kairos Prison Ministry, Chapel in God's Country, Hondo Lions Club, and was a member of the New Fountain United Methodist Church.
