Alberto A. Fernandez, a resident of D'Hanis, entered eternal rest Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at the age of 69 years. Alberto was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Uvalde and was the son of Placido and Dolores Almendarez Fernandez. Alberto retired as a supervisor with the Texas Department of Transportation after 27 years. He was a very hard-working man, dedicating his life to providing for his family to offer a better life for them and working not only with TXDoT, but also having a parttime job doing lawn management. He seemed to know how to do everything and fix anything. He was full of practical knowledge that no school book could teach, but learned from a lifetime of hands-on experience. But, for as hard-working of a man as he was, he always had time for his family and was always full of love and kindness. Never would a person meet him and not walk away with a lifelong friend. He always had a smile on his face and always had a story or joke to tell. When he wasn't working or with his family, you could always find him sitting in the back yard enjoying the simple things in life, watching the squirrels chasing each other through the pecan trees, listening to his favorite Tejano or Country stations, watching the birds, or building bird feeders and bird houses. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Placido Jr. and Jesus. He is survived by his wife, Enriqueta Guerra Fernandez; sons, Alberto (Shelly) Fernandez Jr. and Marcus Fernandez; daughter, Vanessa Marie Fernandez; grandchildren, Pete Alberto Allen, Renee Eloise and Angelita Celeste; sisters, Erma Fernandez, Mary Helen (Gilberto) Biera, Rosalinda Fernandez and Pauline Gaytan; brother, Carlos (Mary) Fernandez; sister-in-law, Susie Fernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary was held Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m., followed by funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery in D'Hanis. Pallbearers were James Gonzales, Mike Crow, Joe Hernandez, Jesus Garcia, Carlos Fernandez Jr. and Victor Garcia.
