Alex George Wendland Jr., age 81, of Hondo passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012. He was born Oct. 1, 1930, in Hondo, the son of Alex George and Mary Margaret (Fohn) Wendland. He graduated from Hondo High School and Texas A&M University in College Station. He worked as a geologist for Mobil Oil Corp for 25 years. Alex is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Melvin Wendland and Winona Helen Henson. He is survived by his brother, James Wendland and wife Genevieve of Bowie MD. Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. followed by Funeral Mass at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
