Alexander "Alex" Barrientes, age 60, of San Antonio passed away, Jan. 27, 2012, after years of battling with pulmonary fibrosis. The son of the late Oscar and Benedita (Perales) Barrientes, he was born in Hondo on May 21, 1951. Mr. Barrientes served in the U. S. Air Force for 35 years, retiring with the rank of Major. He received numerous medals for his honors and commendations. He enjoyed spending time with his family and restoring classic cars. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Reggie (Pedroza) Barrientes, also formerly of Hondo; his children, Alex and Lara Barrientes of Buda, Jonathan and Jennifer Barrientes of Cedar Park, and Sarah Barrientes of San Antonio; and his brother, Oscar. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, whom he adored, Kaela (11), Eliana (8), Javen (8), Jaya (5), David (4) and Anthony (2), and his three granddogs. The Guinn-Horger Chapel will be open for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo.
