Alifonso "Poncho" Tobar, Jr. of Yancey passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020. He was 92.

The son of Alifonso and Maria Felan Tobar, he was born in Knippa on July 28, 1927.

A lifelong rancher and farmer, he was loved by all who met him for his sense of humor, his honesty, integrity, caring and compassion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Theadora Sanchez Tobar; a young sister; and brother, Trinidad Tobar.

Remaining to carry on his legacy are his son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Janet Tobar of Yancey; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Yancey Cemetery.
