Obituary

Alton Edward Haile of Hondo, Texas, loving husband and father, devoted grandfather, and an uncle to remember, left this earth peacefully on March 29, 2006, at the age of 82, in Hondo. He was born September 21, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Robert Martin & MaeBelle (Milam) Haile. Alton spent his childhood and younger years in Luna, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents; a toddler brother Phillip Haile, and his soul mate as well as brother Norval Lee Haile. Alton is survived by his wife of fifty years, Betty Jane (Nabors) Haile; daughter Nancy Mae Haile Mumme of Hondo; sons Lee Harris Haile of Tarpley, Russell Martin Haile of San Antonio; grandchildren JimBob, Brandi, Krystle Mumme, children of Nancy and Bobby Mumme, Acayla and Sierra Haile, children of Lee and Karen (Reinartz) Haile. Alton loved and cherished his niece and many nephews, as well as many extended family members that he felt as close to as his own family. In their younger years Alton and his brother Norval ranched together in the Waring and Sisterdale, Texas area, and they owned a ranch most of their lives in Real County. Alton served in the Navy and Merchant Marines during WWII, where he learned the trade of refrigeration mechanics. After marrying Betty, they settled in San Antonio where Alton worked in the commercial refrigeration/air conditioning business retiring some thirty years later. The family moved to Medina County the summer of 1972, where he lived out the rest of his life enjoying his cows, horses, his family and friends. The Memorial Service, officiated by Michael Weaver, Alton's "nephew" (sort of) and Pastor Charles Parker was at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at the New Fountain United Methodist Church. A gathering of family and friends followed in the New Fountain United Methodist Church activity center. The Honorary Pallbearers were Ray Baker, John Brite, Norval Haile, Robert Haile, Gilbert Laubach, Wayne Murphy, Sammy Richardson, Arnold "Scooter" Rone. We are going to miss him, but the memories will be unforgettable.
