Alvin Richard Skiles, age 73, of Sabinal passed away Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2015. Born Dec. 30, 1941, in Del Rio, Richard was the son of Emmett and M. Eleanor Hart Skiles. He grew up in Langtry, attended Del Rio High School, San Jacinto High School and Tech School. He was a jack-of-all-trades: sold insurance and became a manager for Reliable Life Insurance, helped to build Amistad Dam power plant, worked for a construction business in Del Rio, delivered the Thrifty Nickel for 14 years in San Angelo, and owned a gas station. After retirement, he traded knives and coins. He loved his family and many friends. He also loved to travel and play cards. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Emmett Jr., Presley Seal, James Rumsey and Margaret Louise. Survivors include his sister, Laura Mae Wilson; daughters, Daina Skiles (Kent) Schwartz of San Angelo, Julie Skiles of Sabinal, and Missy (Doug) Christensen of Clifton; grandchildren, Amber, Casey (Stephanie), Taylor, Jared, Jon-Mitchell, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Alayah, Ira and Hannah; and cousin, Jack (Wilmuth) Skiles of Langtry. He was looking forward to the birth of his fourth great-grandchild next week. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 14, at Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio, with a Celebration of Life barbecue meal at Elks Lodge in Del Rio.
