Alvin John Wiemers, age 88, of Hondo passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013. Born in Hondo, Oct. 11, 1924, he was the son of John Henry and Ida Alvina (Schneider) Wiemers. A farmer/rancher all his life, Alvin also did custom harvesting for many years. He was an avid hunter and had been a beekeeper since a teenager. Alvin was active in his church and many community events and organizations. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3891, Alamo Area Beekeepers Assn., Medina County Farm Bureau, Texas Farm Bureau and Hermann Sons Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Luella F. Schweers; and brothers, Olen W. Wiemers and Reuben Wiemers. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, 11 1/2 months, Alice Ruby (Mumme) Wiemers; sons, Timothy Oren Wiemers and wife Suzan Siy Wiemers of Houston and Mark Arlen Wiemers and wife Annie of Hondo; grandchildren, David Wiemers, Daniel Wiemers, Jeanette Arlene Margle and husband Michael Alexander Margle, Katerina Nellie Rose Wiemers and fiancé, Benjamin Brent Unger, all of Houston; brother, Elgin Wiemers and wife Velma; and sister-in-law, Fay Dell Wiemers, all of Hondo. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 7, 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m., at New Fountain United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to New Fountain United Methodist Church.
