Anna Laura (Renken) Jones, age 90, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012. Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Paul Harrison and Annie Marie (Schott) Renken. Ann Renken grew up in Hondo, schooled there and went to business college in San Antonio. She was married to Ralph Jones for 62 years and raised 5 children. After the War the family moved to Boston for 3 years, eventually settled in Hondo, and was part of Jones Shoe Store from 1949 to 1989. A devout Catholic for years, she said the rosary regularly and even did Sunday Mass on television after she was unable to attend St. Johns Church. She enjoyed golf, fishing, cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening and won awards in several of these interests. She managed a Purple Martin colony for over 50 years--one of the oldest in Texas. Ralph and Ann traveled all over the states and Australia visiting family and friends. An avid computer enthusiast, she really enjoyed emailing letters and sharing pictures with the family and was amazingly adept at keeping up with new technology. She is preceded in death by her parents; also by husband, Ralph J. Jones Sr.; brothers, Howard T., Harvey H., August W., Paul J., Milton J. "Fuzzy", and Harold G. Renken; and sisters, Pauline Renken and Inell (Renken) Schmidt. She is survived by sons, Rick and wife, Cookie Jones of Cincinnati OH; Steve and wife Dr. PJ Peterson-Jones of Long View WA; Buddy Jones of Carrizo Springs; and Mike Jones and wife Kathy of Perth, Australia; daughter, Ann Gay Walker and husband Renny of Hondo; sisters, Dorothy (Renken) Tamplin of Bulverde and Sister Margaret Ann Renken of San Antonio; and sisters-in-law, Ecey (Decker) Renken and Mary (Renken) Wells, both of Hondo and her 11 grandchildren Erica, Michelle, Allison, Craig, Alexander, David, John, Robbie, Bryan, Courtney and Justin and 14 great grandchildren, Audrey, Joseph, Victoria, William, Ellie, Hannah, Jake, Jett, Addison, Kadyn, Tyler, Madison, Sabrina and Quinton. Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section. Dinner following at the Horger-Eggen House at 1208 21st Street, Hondo with parking behind house in the funeral home parking lot. The family suggests memorials may be made to Medina Memorial Hospital.
