Annie Brucks Bendele, age 82, passed away on June 21, 2006, while at Regency Village Care Center in Austin, TX. She was born in Quihi, TX on February 14, 1924 to parents August Henry and Hermina (Bohmfalk) Brucks. She was baptized in the family home on February 21, 1925 and confirmed in September of 1938 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi. She grew up on the family farm and ranch in Quihi and in 1942 moved to Hondo and lived with the L.B. Grell family while working at their grocery store. In 1943 she went to work for the City of Hondo Utilities where she remained for 12 years. She was united in marriage to W.H. "Cotton" Bendele on May 15, 1949 in the St. Paul Lutheran church in Hondo. They were blessed with one child Linda Ann, born on September 15, 1955. In 1960 Annie became employed with the Medina Electric Cooperative where she worked for 31 years and advanced to Head Clerk. Annie had many interests and hobbies. As a young women she was pitcher of the softball team in school, and as an adult she participated in volley ball and bowling teams. She enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with her family. She loved music and could play piano by ear. She regularly played cards and bunco and liked traveling with her friends. She loved to feed and watch the humming birds in her yard. After retiring in June 1991 she stayed very busy, and did a lot of volunteer work, which included being an usher at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio. She served as president of Hermann Sons Victory Lodge 161-3 for 20 years and was a member of the Grand Lodge Home for the Aged Committee for eight years She served as Vice President and as a Board Member for Hondo AARP, and also a Board Member with the Medina County Museum. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo where she taught Sunday School for 17 years, served on the Altar Guild and various committees, was a regular participant in the women's group and sang in the choir. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sister Nora Bowser of Lawton Oklahoma, and two brothers Marion Brucks of Quihi and Herman Brucks of Hondo. Survivors are daughter and son-in-law Linda Ann and Barry Voigt of Austin; sisters-in-law: Marianne Snyder of D'Hanis and Marilynn Brucks of Hondo; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo from 1:00pm until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, and the Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. The Casket Carriers were Kevin Farrer, Ken Massey, Steven Brucks, Cory Brucks, Wm. "Gizmo" Freeman, Clyde Schuehle. Burial followed in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
