Annie Melissa (Smith) Breiten, age 89, of Hondo passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007. Annie was born near Pearsall Jan. 25, 1918, a daughter of Louis Andrew and Mamie Frances (Cathcart) Smith. When she and Wesley F. Breiten married in 1938, Annie left her family home in Center Point and moved to Hondo. She was, first and foremost a devoted mother, an assistant in her husband's business, and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by their four children, Judy Breiten of Denton, Wesley A. Breiten and wife Pat of Wolfe City, Fred J. Breiten and wife Connie of Princeton, IN, and Donna Breiten Sharp of Hondo; eight grandchildren, Melissa Henson, Tom Cole, Tina Wren, Toby Breiten, Heather Ward, Matt Breiten, Josh Sharp and Abby Sharp; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Fayerene Pankratz of Dayton, TX. Her husband, Wesley, was killed in an auto accident in 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, L. A., George Daniel, Marshall Scott, Grady Norris, Brady, Austin, Clinton, Nell, and Hauty Smith. Funeral service was held Monday, Apr. 30, 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Hondo. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Casketbearers were grandsons, Tom Cole, Matt Breiten, Toby Breiten, and Josh Sharp; great-grandsons, Cole Henson and Marshall Henson; and grandsons-in-law Joe Ward and Edward Henson. Serving as honorary bearers were members of the Mary Martha Gleaners Sunday School class of First Baptist Church, Elizabeth McAnelly, teacher.
