Armida R
Avitia
June 6, 1942 – February 8, 2021
Armida R. Avitia of Balch Spring, 79, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2021.
Born in Morelos, Coahuila, Mexico, June 6, 1942, she was the daughter of Manuel and Bernarda Perez Rodriguez, who preceded her in death.
Armida was an innovative and creative woman. It wasn't unusual to find her sewing a new piece of clothing or knitting a "pancho". She was equally talented in the kitchen––where she was a wizard––there wasn't an ingredient that she couldn't make into the best dinner ever. Armida was a proud "housemother," always making sure her husband and children had the nicest and cleanest clothes. When it came to music and dancing, there wasn't a song or dance that Armida had not heard or danced. More than anything, her greatest treasures were the love of her life, Luis, and her children, Moises, Armida, Marybel, Jose and Marysol.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Luis Avitia Rivera; sons, Moises (Ana) Cantu of Uvalde, Jose Cantu of Balch Spring; daughters, Armida (Juan) Alcocer of Spring Branch, Marybel (Rigo) De La Fuente of Dallas and Marysol (Ruben) Enriquez of Beach Park, IL; a grandson they raised, Jose Vega of Mesquite; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Manuel Rodriguez of Eagle Pass; and sister, Romelia Rodriguez De Garcia of Los Alamos, Mexico.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 26, 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Feb. 27, 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery Annex.
