Aubrey Leakey Carter of D Hanis passed away Friday, July 26, 2019, at the age of 81. Aubrey was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Uvalde, to Clifton and Corynne Miles Carter. He graduated from Knippa High School with many accomplishments in football, basketball and on the track field. Aubrey married Linda Nester at Holy Cross Catholic Church on July 17, 1960. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage and three children. He served two years in the U.S. Army, and retired from AT&T after 25 years service. He and Linda then moved to D'Hanis. He is remembered by the many birdhouses he made as his hobby and the visiting at breakfast every Sunday with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jane and brother, Archie. He is survived by his loving wife; his daughter, Angela Sawyer; sons, Jeffrey (Stacie) Carter and Tim (Roxanne) Carter; grandchildren, Carter and Dillon Sawyer, Meagan (Bradley) McKee, Jacob (Kiara) Carter and Anna Carter, Victoria and Collin Carter, Breanna and Rayelee Slaughter; and great-grandson, Cole Leakey Carter; sister, Elsie Andrews; brothers, Monroe (Mary) Carter and Maxie (Carol) Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also will be remembered by a lifetime of friends and co-workers. The family will accept condolences from 10 to 10:30 a.m., prior to recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Private interment will be at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or the Holy Cross Building Fund.
