Barbara Jean (Litts) Des Chenes, age 65, of Biry passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, when she lost her battle with small cell lung cancer. Born Oct. 9, 1945, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of George and Ruth (Berry) Litts. Her father preceded her in death. For more than 20 years she was activity director at New Forest Estates, a retirement home in San Antonio, as well as an accomplished licensed nurseryman. She had been a member of the Medina County Museum Board for a time. She is survived by her son, Howard Bruce Des Chenes of Brooklyn, NY; daughters, Venica Riojas of San Antonio, Amy Taylor of Talahassee, FL, and Rebecca Des Chenes of Houston; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Trevino, Rudy, Michael and Eddie Riojas, all of San Antonio, Melanie Taylor of Talahassee, Dominic, Chelsea, Tristan and Cierra, all of Archer, FL; mother, Ruth Des Chenes, and sister, Edith Myrick, both of Gainesville, FL; half-brother, George Litts, Jr. of Seattle, WA; and nephew, Wayne Myrick of Gainesville. A 12 noon memorial service is was at her home in Biry on Saturday, June 25.
