Basilio "Bo" Rodriguez Ortiz of D'Hanis, age 74, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019. Born April 15, 1944, in D'Hanis, he was the son of Amadeo and Feliciana "Anita" Rodriguez Ortiz. A kind, sweet, loving man, his daughter was his pride and joy and he loved every one of his grandchildren immeasurably. He enjoyed traveling at every opportunity and he loved to dance and to gamble. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Travis Babbitt; and siblings, Carolina O. Garcia, Amadeo "Shorty" Ortiz Jr., Gilbert Ortiz, Alejandro Ortiz, Ismael Ortiz, Leandro Ortiz, Oralia Dominguez and Balbina Orosco. He is survived by his wife, Berta Aviles Ortiz; daughters, Anita Babbitt of Killeen and Sandra (Henry) Mejia of D'Hanis; sons, Frank Gomez of Sabinal, Ephraim (Kathy) Gomez Sr. of Hondo and Juan Israel Salazar of Sabinal; 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Ramiro (Alicia) Ortiz of D'Hanis and Enemencio Ortiz of California; and sister, Dominga Hernandez of Austin. Rosary will be recited Monday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Interment will follow at San Francisco Cemetery. Pallbearers are his sons Ephraim, Frank and Juan Israel and grandsons, Diego A. Babbitt, Jordan Gomez and Henry Mejia.
