Betty Jane (Nabors) Haile, age 78, of rural Hondo passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007. She was born May 9, 1928, in San Antonio to Emery Russell and Nanny Opal (Reed) Nabors. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alton Haile, in March 2006; and sister, Martha May Richardson. A gifted sculptor, painter and author, she was an active member of Hondo Art League. Among her many works of art, she designed and sculpted the graceful doe statue and fountain located at the northwest corner of city hall, the Hondo Art League's millenium project in 2000. She is survived by her children, Nancy Haile Mumme of Hondo, Lee Haile and wife Karen of Tarpley, and Russell Haile of San Antonio; grandchildren, Jim Bob, Brandi Kay and Krystle Reneé Mumme and Acayla Morenci and Sierra Chisos Haile; and brother, John Reed Nabors and wife Mary of Poteet. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m., at New Fountain United Methodist Church. The casket carriers were Jim Bob Mumme, Wayne Murphy, Chad Richardson, Eric Richardson, Ray Baker, Gilbert Laubach, and Mark McCarthy. Interment was at 3:30 p.m. at Mission Park North Cemetery, San Antonio. Rev. Charlie Parker officiated both services.
