Obituary

Betty Frances Harrell Mumme of Hondo passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the age of 78. Born in Jacksonville, TX, on December 18, 1939, she was the daughter of E.D. and Sarah Joe Wherry Harrell. Betty moved to Hondo from Grand Prairie while she was in High School. While a student at Hondo High School she met and later married Clarence Mumme Jr., on May 26, 1956 at the Methodist Church of Hondo. Betty and Clarence worked together on several business ventures, including Mumme Truck Sales, an International truck and Farmall tractor dealership owned by the couple. She later continued her work as a bookkeeper at Mumme's Inc. In addition to her work as a dedicated wife and mother, Betty was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She volunteered as a Sunday school class teacher to 1st and 2nd graders and assisted with Bible School. She also served as a lay minister, visiting and administering communion to home-bound members of the church. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, E.D. Harrell and Sarah Joe Wherry Harrell; husband, Clarence Mumme, Jr.; infant son, Mitchell Lee Mumme; and sisters Vivian Jean McKowan and Sarah Joe (Sally) Harrell Williams. Survivors include daughters, Diane (Russell) Meyer and Annette (John) Billings, all of Hondo; grandchildren, Eric Meyer of Hondo and Sarah (Steven) Hardt of Austin, Stephanie (Christopher) Moye of Coldsprings, and Justin Billings of Hondo; great-grandchildren Dustin Moye, Caylee Moye, John Ryan Moye, and Annie Hardt; stepmother Frances Harrell of Spring, TX; brothers William Dean (Trisha) Harrell of Mansfield, TX, and Harold (Brenda) Peeples of Spring, TX; and brothers-in-law Charles (Alice) Mumme and TL (Charlotte) Proctor, all of Hondo. Memorial service will be Monday, February 26, 2018, 11 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family requests memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
