Obituary

Betty Ann Peden, adored wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the age of 75. She was a fourth generation South Texas pharmacist, former president of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, longtime member of the Texas Republican County Chairman's Association, and active Rotarian. Instrumental in the formation of the Medina County Republican Party, Ann served the Republican party at almost every level and has served as county chair for 32 years. She was also a "natural born" teacher and worked as a substitute teacher in both High school and Jr. High in the early days. Later she taught seminars on all aspects of being a County Chairman and Election Law all over the state. Born in San Antonio, Feb. 10, 1941, she was the daughter of David Currie and Minnie Evelyn Atkins Howard. Her parents preceded her in death. Shortly after earning their pharmacy degrees, the Pedens moved to Hondo, purchased Windrow Drug Store and operated as Peden Rexall Drug some 40 years, until their retirement. She was a gifted leader in her church and community, as a member and officer of many organizations, including the Hondo Garden Club and Sigma Tau Sorority, among others, and First Methodist Church, where she and Bob also sang in the choir. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robert "Bob" Peden; sons, Scott (Kari) Peden of Waco and James (Kim) Peden of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Ashley Brooks Peden, Robert Anderson Peden, David Whitley Peden and Ann Whitley Peden; sister, Rebecca (Frank) Harris of Round Rock; and brother, David Lee Howard of Kerr-ville. Visitation will be Friday, April 29, 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Hondo. Interment will be Sunday, May 1, 3 p.m., at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin. The family suggests that she be remembered with memorials to Medina Healthcare Fund or the charity of one's choice.
