Billy D Cogburn, age 86, of Hondo passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013. Bill was born in rural Throckmorton County, Aug. 17, 1927, the fourth child born to Alma Corrine (Ingram) and Homer Quince Cogburn. He graduated from Woodson High School, Woodson, TX, and was immediately "welcomed" into the U.S. Army. He enrolled at North Texas State in Denton and pledged Kappa Pi Omega Fraternity. His first job was with the Texas State Insurance Commission in Austin and he later had an insurance agency in Abilene. Bill was an active Lion in Hondo. He served as chairman on the Medina Hospital Board, was a Hondo City Council member and a member of First United Methodist Church of Hondo. Bill and Bettie (Curtis) were married 60 years on June 13 and have three wonderful children, Susan Elizabeth Wright and husband Lennon of Houston, William Curtis Cogburn, D.C., and wife Sandra of Lytle, and Sammi Courtney Davis of San Antonio; seven grandsons, Christopher Wright and wife Ann and baby Pearl, Taylor Wright and wife Paige, Connley and Chase Davis, and William, David and Brian Cogburn; sister, Ruth Cogburn Sparks of Ft. Worth; and brother, Lloyd H. "Butch" Cogburn of Shamrock. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Liles and Emogene Worthing; and brother, Herman Cogburn. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 13, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at First United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Bearers are his seven grandsons and honorary bearers are Walt Bendele, Jim Barden, Jim Danner, Glen Klaus and Tootie Ilse. The family suggests memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Hondo or the hospital's Medina Healthcare Fund.
