Brenda June Krahn Decker, age 57 of Quihi, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at her parent's home, surrounded by her family, in San Antonio after a lengthy battle with cancer. Brenda was born in San Antonio, on July 2, 1954. She graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1972, and graduated with honors from Our Lady of the Lake University. Brenda was employed for over 37 years at Southwest Research Institute as the manager of the human resources work life and diversity department. She served as president and secretary of ESM/NESRA, secretary of RRA, and she planned all events at the Institute to include everything from new employee orientation to all social events. She was a life member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and was very active in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi, Texas. After her diagnosis of breast cancer she established a website, "www.DancingWithCancer.com" to provide support and resources for others battling this disease. She was very active in the Medina County Relay For Life events. Brenda is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Decker; daughter, Jennifer June Robbins Griffin and her husband, Justin; sons, Justin Robbins, Joseph H. Decker, Jr., and his wife Rebecca, and Joshua H. Decker; brother, Bruce Krahn and his wife, Tamra, and daughter, Brooke. She is also survived by her parents, Edmund and Betty Krahn; mother-in-law, Jackie Krueger and her husband Edmund. Brenda was an avid traveler, and loved to be with her family and friends. Wherever Brenda was, the good times followed. As she said on her website, "Life isn't waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain." The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home will be open for Visitation on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, TX. Interment will be at the Quihi Cemetery in Quihi. Serving as pallbearers are, Joe Tondre, Joey Finger, Mike Beers, JJ McQuade, Dennis Kymes, Harold "Snookie" Moore and honorary pallbearers, Debbie Price, Shirley Moore, Shelli Finger, Sharon Tondre, Jackie Heiligman, Linda Fohn, Darlene Parker, and Melloni McArthur. There will be a reception after the burial at the Braden Keller Community Center, 1410 Amelia Street, Castroville, TX The family suggests memorials be given in Brenda's memory to the American Cancer Society.
