Carlos Tovar, age 62, of D'Hanis passed away Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2011. Born Sept. 22, 1948, in Hondo, he was the son of Guillermo "Memo" and Hortencia (Ontiveros) Tovar. Carlos graduated from D'Hanis High School. He joined the U.S. Navy, served during the Viet Nam War and was decorated for his service. Upon his return, he entered law enforcement, serving as constable for D'Hanis, as sergeant for the Medina County Sheriff's Office, for the Castroville Police Department, as police chief in Poteet, and then as a private investigator. He returned to his true love -painting, building and remodeling- owning his own company, named M&L, for his daughters. He worked for Habitat for Humanity for several years and enjoyed doing charity work for those in need. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Marisol Tovar. Survivors include his companion, Cathryn "Tinka" Langfeld of D'Hanis; son, Fernando Dominguez (Tovar); daughters, Mari Gutierrez and husband Joey and Laura Tovar; and grandchildren, Damien and Isaiah Gutierrez and one on the way, all of San Antonio; brothers and sisters, George Tovar, Guillermo Tovar Jr., Maria Inez Tovar, Reymundo Tovar, and Margarita Aguilar, all of San Antonio; aunts and uncles, Sister Maria Wilfred Ontiveros MCDP, Pauline and Guadalupe Gonzales, all of San Antonio. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Guinn-Horger Chapel, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Mar. 22, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Pallbearers are Matthew Migura, Hipolito Rodriguez, Bill Butler, Donald "Butch" Campsey, James Rothe and Ernest Mejia. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery, D'Hanis. It was Carlos' request that anyone wishing to give memorials may do so to Cancer Research.
