Carmen Hernandez Benavides of Hondo passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020. She was 94.
Born in San Angelo, Dec. 30, 1925, she was the daughter of Vidal and Rosa Aguirre Hernandez.
Growing up Carmen was a migrant worker for many years and in later life was a seamstress. She was a devoted Christian who loved her church family just as much as her real family. She loved her music and she just loved life itself. She was there for anyone and everyone who needed it and prayed for you on the drop-of-a-hat, no matter when or where. She was a loving mother, a loving grandmother and the true friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Abraham Benavides; sisters, Hilaria Cuellar and Minga Casillas; brother, Antonio Hernandez; and grandson she raised, Juan Alvarado.
She will be remembered by her sister, Ester Ochoa of Midland; daughters, Alicia Duarte of Hondo, Yolanda Barrera and Lupe Guajardo, both of San Angelo and Juanita Isabel Chapa of Dallas; son, Ramiro Alvarado of San Angelo; 25 grandchildren, including grandsons she raised, Elifonso Correa Jr. of San Angelo and Elizar Alvarado of Hondo; 27 great-grandchildren, 52 great-great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Attendance at a private service is limited.
Face covering and social distancing are required.
Graveside service will be Friday, Sept. 4, 10 a.m. at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.Those who wish are invited to line up in front of Guinn Funeral Home to join the procession leaving at 9:30 to the cemetery.
