"Johnnie" Carmen Tondre Santleben, age 83, of La Coste, passed away July 4, 2012. Johnnie was born July 16, 1928 in Castroville to the late Julius and Clara Biediger Tondre. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" McDaniel, and brothers, Gervase Tondre and Floyd Tondre. On April 15, 1947 she married Alvin C. Santleben in Castroville. She was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on various committees over the years. Johnnie also was very active in her childrens' school and volunteered her time and talents there. She was an LVN and she worked as a substitute teacher at Medina Valley for 18 years. Survivors include her husband, Alvin C. Santleben of La Coste; children and their spouses, Alvin Jr. and Ani Santleben of Eagle Pass, Elaine and Steve Persyn of Castroville, Dale and Victor Cuppetilli of Hondo, and Carl and Brenda Santleben of La Coste; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Susie Q. Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund, Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
