Obituary

Carol Ellis
October 19, 1961 – April 29, 2025

On Tuesday evening, April 29, 2025, Carol Ellis, our shining star, was called home to be with the Lord. Born Carol Lynn Damron on October 19, 1961, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the third child of Donald R. and Willis A. (Jennings) Damron. From the moment she entered this world, Carol was destined to brighten the lives of everyone around her.

Carol graduated from South San Antonio High School in 1980 before briefly attending Lubbock Christian College. She later earned her associate's degree in dental assisting from San Antonio College, though she quickly realized that hands-on work in people's mouths wasn't as glamorous as it seemed.

On August 21, 1983, Carol married her best friend, Michael W. Ellis, and became a proud Marine's wife. Together, they moved across the country to Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, and California, building a strong, loving marriage that lasted for 41 years. Along the way, they added to their family – first with Jeremy in San Antonio and later with Tabitha in California. After Michael's service, they settled in Castroville for several years before making Hondo their home, where they were active members of the Hondo Church of Christ for over 30 years.

Carol always believed in helping others, so she returned to school to become a medical imaging technician. She quickly became known as the person who could talk to anyone—even the most "difficult" patients. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel seen and heard, often in the most entertaining way possible. Her dedication to caring for others brought her joy.

Though illness eventually slowed her down, Carol never lost her positive spirit. Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2019, she battled the cancer with strength and grace. Even through difficult treatments, Carol remained focused on her faith and her family. Her social media posts were full of inspiring quotes and reminders to be thankful to God for life—even on the tough days – and her unwavering belief in His plan.

Her downtime was spent doing the things she loved: watching hummingbirds and butterflies flutter outside her living room window (while loving on her dog, Buddy), restoring furniture (which she somehow convinced Michael to help with), and enjoying time outdoors with her mother. She loved spending time with her family, especially her extended family of friends, and had a soft spot for children, always making time to play and chat with them.

Carol leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; their children, Jeremy (Desiree) and Tabitha; her mother, Willis Damron; siblings, Darrell Damron (Annette), Joyce Sortino, and Lisa Pierce (David); and a massive circle of family and friends who will forever remember her for her love of purple, her humor, her heart, and her unshakeable faith.  We will miss her, we will love her, and we know we will see her again!
