Charles R.
"Ron" Butler
March 9, 1938 – November 4, 2024
Charles R. "Ron" Butler of Devine, formerly of Rio Grande City, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. He was 86.
Born March 9, 1938, in Wink TX, he was the son of John Milton and Alverne O. Arnold Butler.
Ron was a loving husband, father, step-father, and grandfather. Always the gentleman, our proud veteran walked through life with a gentle strength, imparting compassion with wisdom towards everyone lucky enough to cross his path. A friend to many, his generosity was unparalleled. As a coach for Roma ISD for many years, he was able to model for his students what hard work, determination, and consideration for each other looked like.
Whether on the ranch with his animals, or on the beach, Ron was happiest when immersed in nature with loved ones by his side.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale T. Butler; and brother-in-law, Robert Nunnallee.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Solis Butler; daughters, Lacey Hull and Lindsey Fenton (Marshall); stepchildren, Bea De La Cruz (John) and Roberto Castillon III (Priscilla); and grandchildren: Owen, Jazzy, Mikey, Payton, Camden, Zara, and Fallon; sister, Bonnie Nunnallee; and niece, Coby Lyons (Duane).
He will be remembered with love and gratitude always.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 18, 9 to 11:00 a.m.at Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo, followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and interment at 2:00 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.
