Chester Joe Saathoff, age 92, of Hondo, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009. He was born September 21, 1916, in Hondo, the son of Robert August and Ida (Britsch) Saathoff. A lifelong farmer/rancher, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, Hermann Sons, Lutheran Brotherhood, and Quihi Gun Club. Chester is survived by his wife, Elsie Rose (Steubing) Saathoff; son, Myron Chester Saathoff and wife Neva of Devine; daughter, Lanell Joyce Floerke and husband George of Hondo; and son, Cornell Roger Saathoff and wife Elenora of Hondo; seven grandchildren, Tanessa (Saathoff) Sawyer and husband Brett, Tate Saathoff and wife Lauren, Nichole (Floerke) Boyd and husband Fred, Kristen Floerke, Catherine Saathoff, Ryan Saathoff and Rees Saathoff; five great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Boyd, Kinsley and Keira Sawyer and Brody Saathoff. Funeral service was held at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Mayer officiating. Pallbearers were Fred Boyd, Brett Sawyer, Tate Saathoff, Ryan Saathoff, Bobby Bader, Mike Saathoff, Dana Balderree, and Robert Schmidt. Honorary bearers were Nichole Boyd, Tanessa Sawyer, Kristen Floerke, Catherine Saathoff, and Rees Saathoff. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
