Christine "Chris" Mitchell, age 60, of rural Hondo passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at her home. She was born April 19, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. Chris and her husband moved to Medina County in 2003. She was elected Medina County Precinct 1 Commissioner, and was active in her position until late spring 2006. Cancer was diagnosed three months after she took office in January 2004. Chris was a founding member and former president of the San Antonio chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and, in 2001, was named woman business leader for Region 6 of the Small Business Administration. She was preceded in death by a sister, Stephanie Boyle DeLeon. She is survived by her husband, Chalmers "Jim" Mitchell of Hondo; two children, Michele Crawford of Uvalde and Christopher Lindberg of Burke, VA; three grandchildren, Tennessen Crawford and Tate Crawford, both of Uvalde, and Caven Lindberg of Burke, VA; her parents, retired Army Col. Philip and Ethel Boyle of Austin; two brothers, Philip Boyle Jr. of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Mark Boyle of Kelseyville, CA; and a sister, Anastasia Faving of Austin. A Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 310 FM 2200, in D'Hanis.
