Clarence Julius Saathoff of Hondo/Quihi, born Feb. 16, 1910, peacefully went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 16, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emma Brucks Saathoff; his wife of 57 years, Esther Bohlen Saathoff; brothers, Walter and Elmer Saathoff, and sister, Della DeGrodt. He is survived by daughters, Leona Niebuhr and husband Marvin Lee, Emabelle Hahn and husband Felix Jr.; sons, Leonard and wife Georgia, Howard and wife Glenetta, Richard and wife Beckie; grandchildren, Mark Niebuhr, Debbi Saathoff Sprouse, Doug Saathoff, Annette Saathoff Goodson, Leanne Saathoff Biediger, Sandra Hahn Sanford, Margie Hahn Campbell, Audrey Hahn Cook, Michael Saathoff Angela Saathoff, and Patty Brennan; 22 great-grandchildren, Kari and Kevin Sprouse, Beau Wheeler, Brucks, Annie and Emily Saathoff, Megan and Courtney Campbell, Garrett Saathoff, Tyler, Gessi and Gabriel Barrios, Bianca and Lexi Brennan, Meagan, Gavin and Adam Goodson, Madelyn and Holden Bie-diger, Savannah and Laura Cook, and Mattie Niebuhr; and dear companion, Agnes Breiten. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Roy and Aleen Bohlen, Ehme and Velma Saathoff, Ida Saathoff, Della Bohlen, and Wilma Bohlen. Clarence enjoyed his work in life as a carpenter, farmer and rancher. He was known for the many stories he could tell about his 97 years of life. Visitation was Friday at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service was at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. Interment was at Quihi Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Niebuhr, Steve Cook, Doug Saathoff, Jeff Sprouse, Michael Saathoff, and Stewart Goodson. Memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
