Connie Jean Stiegler Shullanberger

Connie Jean Stiegler Shullanberger was called to her eternal home August, 7, 2026. She was surrounded by her family at her home south of Hondo in Medina County, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Louis and Julia Erna Mann Stiegler; her father and mother-in-law, Rex Eby and Lillian Bernice Cook ”Cookie” Shullanberger; granddaughter, Bryleigh Zaye Shullanberger; and niece and nephew, James Christopher and Jenny Stiegler.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Zane Wyatt Shullanberger; sons and daughters-in-law, Corbin Briant and Kaprice Reinhard Shullanberger of New Braunfels, Texas, Conor Blane and Dawn Shullanberger of New Braunfels, Texas, grandsons, Brixton Zane Shullanberger and Carson Blane Shullanberger, both of New Braunfels, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James and Connie Rose Stiegler of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Connie was born on January 11, 1949, in Hondo, Texas and was raised on the family farm just north of Hondo. She attended school at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Hondo through eighth grade and attended Hondo High School where she was an honor student, cheerleader, a member of the Mighty Owl Band, and CYO queen in 1967. She graduated from Hondo High School in May 1967.

Connie enrolled in the fall of 1967 at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. She majored in secondary education, was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and graduated in May 1971 with a BA in Secondary Education. It was at Texas A&I, where she met her husband, Zane in the fall of 1967. They dated and became engaged in summer of 1970 and were married at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo, Texas on July 24, 1971. After the wedding, they resided in Kingsville, Texas while Zane finished school. During this time, Connie taught senior English at Alice High School and was the cheerleader sponsor for the Alice High School Coyotes.

Upon Zane’s graduation, the couple moved to San Antonio. Connie taught senior English at Winston Churchill High School for two years and was cheerleader sponsor as well. She then decided to move on from teaching and became a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance Company’s main claims office in San Antonio. She remained with State Farm for two years and left to start a family and become a “stay at home” mom for two sons. She looked after and cared for her sons while making a home in the Garden Ridge, New Braunfels area, until such times that the boys left home to start their own careers and have their own families.

Connie and her husband returned to live in the Hondo area to look after her parents in 2005 and have lived on the family ranch south of Hondo ever since. She has been an active member of the Hondo community and has been actively involved with her church, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, since returning to the Hondo area.

Connie enjoyed the simple things. She enjoyed her home and maintaining it with the help of one of her dearest friends, Maria. She enjoyed watering and nurturing her plants inside and outside. She enjoyed observing and listening to the wildlife around her home on the family ranch, especially the quail. She enjoyed entertaining and hanging out with hunters and guests at the ranch. She enjoyed cooking and experimenting with food preparation. She could make a good hearty soup out of almost any leftover. She enjoyed going to HEB, Walmart and the Post Office, where she would meet new friends and greet old friends. She enjoyed her church and her church friends. She enjoyed very good Napa Valley red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and traveling to the California wine country with her wine tasting friends every year. She also enjoyed a good IPA every now and then. She loved to dress up, didn’t matter what the occasion was. She loved to go to New Braunfels to get her hair done by her son, Corbin at The Foundry. She enjoyed driving a clean car. She enjoyed their rottweilers, Kramer, Newman and Shaq. She enjoyed the music of Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire. She enjoyed going out to dinner with close friends to share wine, food and stories. She truly loved and enjoyed her family and friends. Those who knew Connie were blessed and will miss her genuineness and her warm friendliness that indicated she truly cared about you as a friend. Those who did not know Connie, knew of her. She did her best, she ran the race, she kept the faith and she has now obtained her victory prize.

Connie’s family would like to thank Dr. Matt Windrow and the entire staff at Medina Regional Hospital, Ashley Royal and Cate Perez with Tri-County Healthcare, Margi Summers, Rebecca Mainz, Gloria Costa, Lee Alvarez and the entire staff at Alamo Hospice and caregivers Jeanette Rico, Rhonda Jacques, Elva Garza, Carolina Jasso, Antoinette Romero, Jessica Cortez and Hope Ibarra for their compassionate and loving care for Connie during the final days of her battle.

Visitation: 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Rosary: 10:30 am – 11:00 am

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am

Graveside Service: Immediately following Funeral Mass at Hondo Cemetery, 400 County Road 443, Hondo, Tx 78861

Reception: Following Graveside Service at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Parish Hall.
