David Martinez, age 56, of Yancey passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009. Born Dec. 23, 1952, in Austin, he was the son of Louis A. Sr. and Henrietta (Banje) Martinez. He was a musician and was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ernestina Vanover Martinez; and brother, Louis A. Martinez Jr. Survivors are his girlfriend, Sylvia Ontiveros of Yancey; sisters, Lydia Barba and Yvonne Martinez, both of Austin; and stepchildren, Jacob Pruneda of Yancey, Krystal Jonell Vanover of San Antonio, and Lee E. Vanover of Austin. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel, followed by interment at Yancey Cemetery.
