David N. McGraw of Hondo, Texas passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2007 in Austin, Texas. He was 74. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Fay Rath McGraw and parents John Joseph and Anna C. (Nehr) McGraw. He is survived by his daughter Robyn Fuller and son-in-law Rob Fuller and two grandchildren, Emily Erin Fuller and Austin David Fuller all of Austin, brother Patrick J. McGraw, Sr. of D'Hanis, Texas, sister-in-law Barbara Christopher of Hondo, Texas and brother-in-law Al Rath and his wife Judy of San Antonio, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews. David was born April 5, 1933 in Mingo Junction, Ohio. His family moved back to his mother's home in D'Hanis, Texas when David was 2. He graduated from D'Hanis High School and after graduation in 1952, enlisted in the US Navy. He served as a minesman during the Korean War aboard the USS Ticonderoga until his honorable discharge in 1956. Soon afterwards, David began his 35-year career with United Gas Company, currently known as Centerpoint Energy. He spent most of his career as the manager of the gas company office in Hondo, Texas. David served on the board of the West Medina County Water supply for many years. He also was a past member of the Hondo Volunteer Fire Department and helped cook at many of the community Wild Game dinners as well as many of the St. John's Catholic Church's festival barbecues. David was an avid outdoorsman. His true passions in life were ranching and hunting, which he enjoyed until this year. Some of his best memories were time spent at hunting camp and the annual chili suppers he helped organize. David moved to Austin in September to be close to his family during his treatment for colon cancer. While in Austin he appreciated the friendships he had formed while living at The Continental Retirement Community. David was a quiet man who enjoyed being outdoors, his vegetable garden and spending time with his daughter's family. Although his recent battle with cancer was difficult, he is now no longer in pain and at peace. The Guinn-Horger Chapel in Hondo, Texas will be open for visitation from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007. Rosary will be at the chapel on Monday, November 26, 2007 starting at 7:00p.m. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 27, 2007 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo, Texas. The pallbearers were Matthew Rath, Al Rath, David Christopher, Roy Long, Mike Christopher, Richard Finger. The burial followed at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
