Deanna Gauna Obregon of Yancey, 57, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018. Born in Hondo, Sept. 25, 1960, she was the daughter of Ernesto D. Gauna and Marcelina Sandoval Martinez Gauna, both of whom preceded her in death. Deanna attended Hondo schools until the 8th grade when she was needed to help at home. Always a caregiver, often putting the needs of others before her own, she especially enjoyed taking care of the elderly. She became a certified nurse aide and loved the people at the nursing home where she worked. She later was a provider for home health and enjoyed that as well. She was a kind, gentle and very humble person. She loved her children and grandchildren and her greatest joy was being with and taking care of them. She left her mark on life and everyone she knew and she will be dearly missed. Survivors include her husband, Julio P. Obregon; daughter, Rosa Linda (David) Gonzales of Dunlay; sons, Fernando Lopez of Yancey, Richard Lopez of D'Hanis, Julio Obregon Jr. of Hondo and Joe Louie Obregon of Sabinal; six grandchildren; sisters, Mary Obregon of Tulsa OK, Arlene (Juan) Sauceda of Pearsall, Dominga Valdez of Dallas; and brothers, Ernesto Gauna, Cruz (Sylvia) Gauna and Juan Gauna, all of D'Hanis. Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis, followed by interment at San Francisco Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Jose Enrique Gonzales Jr. and Julio Gabriel Obregon; nephews, Ernesto Valdez Jr., Javier Gauna and Cruz Gauna Jr.; and niece, Gabriela Gauna.
