Dominga Rodriguez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on June 21, 2010, at the age of 91. She was born on Jan.12, 1919 in Yancey to Manuel and Margarita (Seelig) Sanchez. On Oct.3, 1936, she was united in marriage with Simon "El Viejon" Rodriguez. They were both lifelong residents of Yancey. Despite a long struggle with Alzheimers, she remained the foundation that held her large, close-knit family together and was surrounded by family and friends until the end. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her love of family, for her kindness, and love of flowers. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Simon Rodriguez, an infant son, and her parents. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Adolfo Sanchez, Tomas Sanchez, Delfina Tovar; and by her great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Gerald Rodriguez. She is survived by her eight children: Elena Garcia and husband Florentino, Amelia Moncada and husband Isabel, Dominga Hernandez and husband Tomas, Olivia Gauna, Lydia Garcia and husband Sostenes Jr. and Efrain "Fry" Rodriguez and wife Janie, all of Yancey; Clemencia Gauna and husband Domingo of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Selma Olivarri of San Antonio. Dominga also has 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Ramona Ontiveros, Irenia Pruneda, Angelita Sanchez, Luis Sanchez and Theodora Tovar. Pallbearers include her son, Efrain Rodriguez and grandchildren Laura Aguilar, Jason Garcia, Pedro Garcia, Christopher Gauna, Sulema Mejia, Gilbert Moncada, and Gabriel Rodriguez. The rosary will be recited on Friday, June 25, at 7pm at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo. A funeral mass will celebrate her life on Saturday, June 26, at 10am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Pallbearers are Sulema Mejia, Jason Garcia, Christopher Gauna, Gabriel Rodriguez, Gilbert Moncada, Laura Aguilar, Pedro Garcia and Efrain "Fry" Rodriguez. Interment in the Yancey Cemetery will follow. Arrangements are directed by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo.
