Donald Muennink, age 70, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Born Aug. 29, 1941, in Hondo, he was the son of Leslie Dedrick and Mary Anna (Wipff) Muennink. His parents and sister, Carolyn Ann Arrington, preceded him in death. Donald was a graduate of Hondo High School and of Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Criminology. He worked in law enforcement for many years and was, first and foremost, a lifelong farmer/rancher. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phylis Jean (Locklar) Muennink; children and their spouses, Lesley Jean and Mark Schautteet of New Braunfels, Donald L. Jr. and Maria Muennink of Manor; Jessica Lynn and Richard Martin of San Antonio, and Justin Todd Muennink of Austin; grandchildren, Rebekah Michele and Edmund LuQuette, Eric Mark Schauteet, Matthew James and Falon Eslinger Schautteet, Amanda Marie Muennink, Megan Marie Martin, Sarah Ray Schautteet, Anna Mary Schautteet, Madison Elizabeth Martin and Bethany Annmarie Rios; and many nieces and nephews. Also, his "grandchildren-by-choice", Mark Kazin and Nicholas Garcia; "great-grandbear", Holly Bear; and special friends, Lulu and Punkin. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Devine. Bearers were Eric Schautteet, Matthew Schautteet, Nicholas Garcia, Mark Kazin, Dewey Dubose, Ricky Yates, and David Montgomery. Honorary bearers were Clayborne Boehle, A. T. Dale, Darrell Muennink, Richard Muennink, George Sauer and Douglas Haass.
