Obituary

Donald Eugene Rasmussen of Floresville passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015. He was 82. Born June 15, 1933, in Cotesville, Nebraska, he was the second of four children of John Axel and Ethel Lorinda Gydesen Rasmussen. He retired after 20 years in the U. S. Army, having served in Korea, Germany and three tours in Viet Nam. While in the military, he earned many awards for his services, including Bronze Star Medal, Sharpshooter M-16 Rifle Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal with first oak leaf cluster. He accrued a wide variety of education and training in the military, some of which included Geneva Convention; Military Justice; Code of Good Group Meetings; and Food Safety courses. He served as the Kitchen Supervisor. While in South Korea in 1963, he married Myong Ock Han. They were married for 33 years and he never remarried after she passed away in June 1997. After retirement, he was a private gentleman who enjoyed working as a rancher in Cotulla TX, spending time with his granddaughters and family, reading Western books, wood working, having coffee with his best friend and boss Harry Krawetz at Bill Miller's restaurant, watching sports such as boxing and football, and vacationing in Arizona, Washington and Oregon. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brothers, Ernest Duane Rasmussen and Leroy Rasmussen. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Proctor; son-in-law, Ryan Proctor; and granddaughters, Rochelle, Jeanelle and Lynnelle, all of Hondo; sister, Ethel Maxine Kocourek of Springfield OR; and nieces, nephews and cousins of California, Oregon and Washington. Committal service with full military honors will be at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Medina Regional Hospital Healthcare Fund.
