Doris May (Bendele) Bartelt of Hondo, Texas, 84, passed away on March 19, 2018, at a care facility in New Braunfels, Texas. Doris was born on May 5, 1933 in Hondo, Texas, the daughter of Oscar and Pauline (Krenmueller) Bendele. Doris grew up in Dunlay, Texas, graduating from St. Louis Catholic School in Castroville and attending Durham Business College in San Antonio. Her first job was as a secretary at the Hondo Air Base where she met Gary George Bartelt. Gary and Doris were married at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on September 20, 1952. Gary's job moved the family to several cities throughout Texas and Doris continued to work as an administrator for several banks and at the Texas State Comptroller's office. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Gary George Bartelt, and her parents, Oscar and Pauline (Krenmueller) Bendele. She leaves her two daughters, Denise (Paul) Kraft of New Braunfels and Donna (Duane) Vaughn of Fulshear; 5 grandchildren, Shana (Kevin) Bayer, Kyle (Amanda) Kraft, Justin (Carrie) Vaughn, Matthew (JanDe) Vaughn, and Kevin (Kileigh) Vaughn; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Kenneth (Mary) Bendele of Hondo; a sister, Shirley Bendele Holzhaus of Castroville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lon and Carol Bartelt of Pulaski, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law Pearl Bartelt of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 10:00, Tuesday, Mar. 27, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Mausoleum. Family suggests memorials may be made to the St John's Building Fund.
