Dorotha Marlene Evans Raymond

Dorotha Marlene Evans Raymond of Yancey, 91, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026.

Born Nov. 13, 1934, at the family home in Yancey, Marlene was the daughter of Aubrey D. and Viola Louise Faseler Evans.

Marlene graduated from Yancey High School, Class of 1956, as Valedictorian. She continued her education at Draughn’s Business College in San Antonio. After completing her studies, she worked as a comptometer operator at Krafts Foods.

While living in San Antonio, she met Ray Raymond on a blind date. Eight months later, they were married and they ultimately enjoyed 71 years together.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Larry Evans and Robbie Evans.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer J. “Ray” Raymond; daughters, Glenda Raymond of Austin; sons, Gregory Raymond (Tammy ) of Ore City, TX, Russell Raymond (Carol) of San Antonio, and Randall Raymond (Becky) of Pearsall; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation at Yancey Baptist Church will be Saturday, Oct. 10, from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Yancey Baptist Church, followed by interment at Yancey Cemetery.
