Dorothy Kathryn (Rutherford) Smith, age 87, of Hondo went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Born January 8, 1926, in Mart, TX, she was the eldest of four daughters of T.G. and Neva Pearl (Rasco) Rutherford. Dorothy grew up loving the Lord. She had many fond memories of spending time with her family and growing up in Freer, TX. Dorothy was very involved in church activities throughout her life, blessing others with her great charisma and hospitality. After meeting 'Smitty' she became a successful bookkeeper, a career she truly enjoyed. After retiring and moving to Hondo, she and 'Smitty' enjoyed many years of touring the countryside in their travel trailer. One of her other favorite pastimes was creating beautiful oil paintings, which adorn the walls of many of her friends', children's, and grandchildren's homes. She enjoyed many visits with her family and was delighted to watch the next generation bloom and grow. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Charles Ray Smith. Survivors include her husband, Colvin E. 'Smitty' Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Dr. Glen Riff of Hondo; daughter-in-law, Janice Smith of Corpus Christi; and sisters, Barbara Crowell of Conroe, Betty Kirkland and her husband, Paul of Ft. Worth, and Mary Sanders and her husband, B.J., of Alvin. Also surviving are her six grandsons, their spouses and her seven great-grandchildren: Brian Riff and daughter, Ashlee; Brett and Crystal Riff and sons, Nolan, Nicholas, and Cannon, all of Hondo; Michael and Jessica Riff and son, Wyatt of New Braunfels; Cody and Dorina Smith and daughters, Calista and Avery of Corpus Christi; Chad and Jamie Smith of Houston and Jacob Smith of Waco. Visitation was be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Friday at New Fountain United Methodist Church, followed by interment at New Fountain Cemetery.
