Douglas Jerome Fuos, age 88, of Kerrville, formerly of Hondo, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013. Born Oct. 15, 1924, in Hondo, he was the son of Walter J. and Clara Louisa (Schweers) Fuos. He was a graduate of Hondo High School, Class of 1942, and Draughon's Business College in San Antonio in 1943. He joined the U. S. Army in 1943 and served at Ft. Hood, England, France, Germany and Belgium. He received five Bronze Battle Stars for participating in the campaigns of Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He worked in the meat packing industry, with G. Armour & Co. for 20 years, in San Antonio, El Paso and Dallas, and as a manager in the Austin plant. In 1949, he married Irma D. "Jackie" Cooper, who preceded him in death in 2007. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle and aunt, Horace and Lillian Schweers. He is survived by his cousins, Beverly Schweers Palmer and husband Jim and Gary Schweers and wife Janis; and other relatives. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of one's choice.
