Obituary

Eddie Wayne Luce, age 58, of Hondo, passed away February 26, 2004. He was born on June 14, 1945, at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, to Alonzo Wayne & Ida Imogene (Swint) Luce. Eddie owned and operated a Cryogenics business. Few began their day earlier than Eddie. He could be found at the high school track and weight room doing his daily workout while most of us were having our first cup of coffee. He was a generous man who would do anything for you, never expecting anything in return. If Eddie wasn't in the bleachers watching Madison or Tyler and their teammates, he was on the sidelines coaching Taylor, Reagan and their friends. Eddie was involved year round with kid's activities, beginning with flag football, youth soccer, youth basketball, Little League and AAU track. When the seasons were done, the circle began again. As the kids moved into the age of competing for Hondo High School athletic teams, Eddie was their #1 fan in the stands, or he would be volunteering to run an event at a track and field meet. Eddie's participation in the activities of his children is an example for all to follow. Eddie may have gotten tired, but he was never too tired for our kids. After a full day of work it was not unusual at all to see Eddie, his children, and their friends jogging laps at the track or jogging on the road by their home. Many of the young people here today couldn't wait for those summertime calls of "Do you want to go to the river today? Our dad said we could pick you up on the way." Minutes later, there would be Eddie and Janet, with two truck loads of kids heading to the river for a day of wet fun. A Lover of track and field, he was still competing Senior Track and Field Meets. Eddie believed the key to athletic success was created on the track. He often said, "You can compete and make a contribution if you are in the best condition." We will all remember Eddie the welder, the craftsman, the dad, husband and friend as a man with a loving, giving heart. We are here today because he reached out and touched our lives. We are all better people because of Eddie being part of our lives. Eddie was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife: Janet (Richter) Luce; sons: Tyler W. Luce and Taylor W. Luce both of Hondo, Eddie L. Luce and wife Elva of Lindale, Coulter Luce of Lindale; daughters: Madison Nicole Luce and Reagan Lee Luce both of Hondo, Jay Sheppard and husband Charles of Beaumont; sisters: Lynda Herndon of Hearne, Susanne Friday and husband Wright of Uvalde, Mona Krempin and husband Roy of Topsy; brother: Jeff Luce and wife Susie of Uvalde; fath-in-law & mother-in-law: Fred and Millie Richter of Hondo; mother: Ida Imogene (Swint) Luce of Campwood.
