Edna Lee Wilson Grunewald of Hondo, age 90, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Born April 9, 1924, in Lubbock, she was the daughter of Amey D. and Gippie (Fitzgerald) Wilson. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Vernon Curtis Grunewald; son, William Sidney Mercer; granddaugher, Angelyn Mercer; son-in-law, Sam Menk; infant sister, Jimmie Lou Wilson; brother, Truit Wilson; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bill Kring, Ethel Lee and Phil Reid, James Grunewald, George and Lydia Grunewald, and Dora Ruth Grunewald. She is survived by daughter, Penny Menk of Hondo; daughter-in-law, Linda Mercer of Seguin; grandsons, Michael Menk and wife Nikki of McQueeney, David Menk and wife Kathy of Schertz, Doug Mercer and wife Nancy of Seguin and David Mercer of Hondo; 10 great-grandchildren and spouses; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, LaVerne Kring of Ft. Stockton; brother-in-law, Roy H. Grunewald of Floresville; sisters-in-law, Pat Grunewald of Yancey and Dottie Wilson of Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews. Vernon and Edna Lee Wilson were married Aug. 4, 1950, and moved to Hondo. She and Vernon owned Edna's Coffee Shop and were the first in Hondo to integrate their establishment. A floral designer for Hondo Flowers, she later owned Edna's Flowers. Her interest in floral design and vegetable and flower gardening continued in her retirement years. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She left many memories and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. will be followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. at Yancey United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Yancey Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Menk, David Menk, Doug Mercer, David Mercer, Kyle Mercer and Cade Mercer.
