Edwardo Contreras, age 96, of Hondo passed away at his home Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. He was born Mar. 15, 1915, in Hondo, the son of Don Savas and Arcadia Reyes Contreras. He was a farmer. Edwardo is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucia (Garcia) Contreras; son, Rodolfo Contreras; brothers, Daniel and Trini Contreras; and granddaughter, Eva Garcia. He is survived by daughters, Gregoria "Goya" Garcia and husband Ignacio "Nacho", Sara Nuñez and husband Luis, Martha Leyva and husband Frank, and Guadalupe Contreras, all of Hondo; sister, Petra Flores of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 13, 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Pallbearers were Juan Garcia, Jose M. DeLa Cruz. Steven Contreras, Antonio Leyva, Bentura Leyva, Rodolfo Contreras Jr., and Joe Nunez.
