Eleen Rosalie Brucks, age 100, of Hondo passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013. Eleen was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Hondo to Ernest and Louise Hartman. At Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, she was baptized March 23, 1913, by L. Hoefer; was confirmed Sept. 13, 1925, by Rev. C. P. Hasskarl; and was married to Herbert J. Brucks Oct. 20, 1937, by Rev. C. Weeber. During World War II, she was a war service substitute for the U. S. Post Office Dept. in Hondo. Later, she was employed at Chapman Grain, the Hondo Anvil Herald, and at Medina Electric Coop for 30 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was the choir director for many years. She loved music, working crossword puzzles and taking care of her yard. Eleen was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; sisters, Lillian Moehring and Della Bohlen; and niece, Geneva Moehring Masters. She is survived by two nieces, Doris Menke and husband Jim and Joyce Herring and husband Monty; and two nephews, Cordell Bohlen and wife Vivian and Glenn Bohlen; and nephew-in-law, Russell Masters. Visitation will be Monday, July 8, 5 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Honorary bearers are Glenn Bohlen and David Menke. Pallbearers are Rusty Masters, Jim Menke, Cordell Bohlen, Monty Herring, Brian Bohlen and Julie Castro. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund or the charity of one's choice.
