Elena S. Martinez, Age 88 years, 8 months, and 2 days, of Hondo, Texas, died on Thursday, December 30, 2004. She was born in Hondo, on May 28, 1916, the daughter of Pedro & Juanita (Ybarra) Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rumaldo Martinez; son Rumaldo Martinez, Jr.; daughter Olivia Martinez; sisters Lucia de la Cruz, Amada Sanchez, Marcelina Sanchez; brother Ernesto Sanchez. Elena is survived by her son Pedro Martinez and wife Lupe of Hondo; daughters Valentina Mendez and husband Juan of Natalia, Mary DeLeon and husband Robert of Hondo, Guadalupe Martinez of Hondo, Ostalia Martinez of Hondo; grandchildren raised like her children Andrew Garcia of Maryland, Ronnie Garcia of Hondo, Edward Garcia of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sisters Luisa Ramirez of Pasadina, Andrea Salazar of Hondo, Lupe Correra of Hondo, Alifonza Trinidad of Hondo, Martha Rios of San Antonio, Eva Contreras of Hondo. The Rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 2 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, January 3, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. The pallbearers were Andrew R. Garcia, Edward Garcia, John Garcia, Jacob DeLeon, Joe Martinez, J.P. Mendez. Burial will follow in the Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
