Elizabeth Josephine Nehr Duman, age 92, of D'Hanis, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, 2016, at Community Care Center in Hondo. She was born Feb. 20, 1924, in D'Hanis to Emil and Ida Helen Biediger Nehr. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Raymond Lee Dickens and Gerard Duman Jr.; sister, Adeline Marie Hamm; brother, Frank David Nehr; infant siblings, John Henry Nehr, Emil William Nehr, Octavia Pauline Nehr, and a stillborn infant brother; and brother-in-law, Ronald Duman. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Harriett Lee Dickens of New Braunfels, Agnes Elaine (Jack) Melton of D'Hanis, Charles Louis (Kris)Dickens of D'Hanis, Gerard "Jerry" (Maria) Duman of Del Rio, Billie Frances (Donnie) Thomas of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters, Agnes Kelly of San Antonio, Theresa Nehr of San Antonio and Irene Cox of D'Hanis; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Nehr of Hondo and Jean (Stanley) Paris of San Antonio. Elizabeth's career as a waitress at the Long Horn Café in San Antonio spanned over 15 years. After marrying her husband, Gerard Duman Jr., in May of 1961, she retired to be a homemaker. She loved gardening, canning, quilting and growing orchids. She was a member of the Alamo Orchid Society, winning many awards at their annual orchid shows. After the death of her husband in 1996, she moved to D'Hanis to be closer to her family. It was then that she continued her love of quilting, making many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She was a member of the Holy Cross Altar Society and Castro Colonies Heritage Association. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday (today), 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be on Friday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to Holy Cross Cemetery Fund.
