Elizabeth Regina Fohn, age 88, of Hondo passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017. She was born June 10, 1928 in Hondo, the daughter of Edwin Maurice "Emmett" Nester and Edna Louise Graff. Elizabeth married the love of her life and childhood sweetheart, Joe Maurice Fohn, on March 1, 1949. They owned several businesses in town, including the White Auto Store, a Laundromat and the family farm. They worked side by side, with Joe running the business and Elizabeth taking care of all the books and a family of six. She also worked at Hondo National Bank for many years. She was involved in the church in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School, Altar Guild, Usher and more. She was a Room Mother in at least one of her children's classes, if not two, each and every year. Elizabeth also became involved in the Hondo Garden Club and spent many hours in the Garden Club Thrift Store each week. She loved to garden and had a beautiful yard. Books were another favorite, especially mysteries. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling with Joe, traveling to Europe and most, if not all, of the states in our wonderful country. One of her favorite hobbies was fishing, but what she loved most was going to casinos and when asked how she did, her response was always "enough to pay for the trip." So win or lose, whenever they went to a casino, it was a win to her. Another love was QVC, and a package would come almost every day. She was a wonderful cook and that worked out really well because Dad loved to eat. A margarita along with dinner was another favorite. Elizabeth was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe; her parents; and brother, Robert Nester; as well as her sisters-in-law, Johelen Fohn and Marilyn Nester; brothers-in-law, Charles Fohn and Theo Lorfing. She is survived by her four children, Robert "Bobby" Fohn and wife Linda of Hondo, Kathleen "Kathy" Reavis and husband Jimmy of Sabinal, Susan "Susie" Kass and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN, and David Fohn and wife Cindy of Hondo; grandchildren, Annie (Frank) Vance, Julie (Paul) Brown, Travis Fohn, Katy (Walter) Hamner, Sara (Glenn) McWilliams, Nicole Kass; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judy (Jim) Timmerman of Kingsville; as well as many nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A private interment will be later at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Community Care Center in Hondo.
