Elizabeth Lucille (Jordan) Selle, age 89, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. Born May 1, 1923 in Vernon, she was the daughter of James Henry and Effie Lee (Clark) Jordan. Lucille spent her early life in San Marcos where her family owned a hotel and resort on the San Marcos River. They later owned a farm in Dilley and settled in Poteet where she graduated from high school. During WWII she worked as a driver at Kelly AFB, transporting dignitaries and wounded soldiers. Later she operated a restaurant in Poteet. But her fondest memories of her working years came from her time spent as a nursing assistant. She made many cherished friends during those years and and loved to share stories from her experiences with family and friends. Lucille (Elizabeth, Mom, Mama Selle, Memaw) will be the best remembered for her sense of humor, cooking, dancing, and raising children. She was a very funny lady, known for telling jokes, pulling practical jokes, making funny faces and embarrassing her children. Anyone who knew her well had shared many laughs with her. She was also a fabulous cook. She could make the best chicken and dumplings, smothered potatoes, potato salad, and peanut brittle. A birthday in the family was never complete without her chocolate sheet cake or Ronnie's banana pudding. She loved to dance -- from two stepping to waltzing to jitterbugging. She taught her kids and many of their friends how to 'cut a rug' out on the dance floor. Her heart was in raising her kids, two adopted boys and her natural daughter. She was also a big part of three of Gene's children's lives. She was the most loving grandmother a grandchild could wish for. Her "kids" also included her children's and grandchildren's friends. She also loved them as her own. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene "Gene" Proctor Selle; and siblings, Willie Schleter, Lottie Eubanks, Bill, Luke, Wade and J.B. Jordan. Lucille is survived by daughter, Janet Zerr and husband Marc of Hondo; sons, Robert Autry and wife Rebecca of Seminole and Ronald Autry and wife Shirley of Victoria; and grandchildren, Jake and Jordan Zerr of Hondo, Brice Autry and wife Carissa of Seminole, Brandon and Brent Autry of Amarillo and Ronald Autry Jr. of Victoria. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, at First United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section. Bearers were Brice, Brandon and Brent Autry, Jake Zerr, Clay Dale and Scott Saathoff. Honorary bearers were Jordan Zerr and Carissa Autry.
